TOP 10 INNOVATION SPARKS

The EDGE network came together October 19, 2018 (third Fridays) at the EDGE Innovation Hub, to spark innovation and push food technology to the edge.

We were joined by our keynote speaker, Erika Boll of the Toasted Oat and asked the question, “What Innovation Sparks might lead a local food brand to expand its product offering?”

  1. Partners in Oats

Toasted Oat Granola can be paired with yogurt, fruit and countless other foods to personalize nutrition. There is an opportunity to co-brand with a multitude of food industry partners to raise the bar on baking and snacking.

  2. RETRO-vation

The Toasted Oat is doubling down on their statement, “indulgence is not only encouraged, but actually good for you!” What innovative opportunities exist to go back to authentic, natural, ”good-for-you ingredients” that the human body knows how to digest?

  3. Oat-scription

In what new ways could monthly subscriptions and loyalty programs reward returning customers?

  4. Kidz Rule

Develop products and packaging that speak to kids. On another note, what product development could help aging folks with chewing issues?

  5. No Bake Yum

Because of its soft nature, Toasted Oat Granola is perfect for pressing into shapes. How could silicone press molds in fun shapes make a great experience for easy, no bake cookies.

  6. Oat-a-thon

A quick shot of delicious energy is on the athlete’s list. How can Toasted Oat Granola be developed as sporting fuel?

  7. How Do I Eat This?

How could packaging innovations, like easy-tear perforation, make the experience of getting an oat-shot faster and cleaner. Leverage packaging companies to deliver the goods for the mutual benefit of more sales.

  8. “This Package is Recyclable”

Toasted Oat packaging is recyclable. This should be printed on the packaging because people want to know.

  9. Tightly Wrapped

Could vacuum-formed packages shape Toasted Oat Granola into bars that tap into the bar market?

  10. Save Your Soul

Develop relationships that lead to the next chapter in the Toasted Oat story, love your competition (and help them get better by being better yourself), and stand firm on your principles.
