A great Friday with Nick Davis and Ben King of Singularity University, followed by a talk with Wil Schulze.

Nick and Ben, without a doubt, will be partners with the EDGE in creating the future of food, while spreading Singularity University's knowledge throughout our network.

Our neighbor Wil, is building a multi-use office building and tap room in Gahanna. We're glad to have Wil as a neighbor.

Innovation is growing in the agriculture industry. The First Crop company is building a farming operation in the United States to bring opportunity to farmers, build environmentally sustainable practices, and return the miracle crop — hemp — back to American soil.

First Crop brought their message of creating a conscious company with heart to create Hemp farming, hemp brands, CBD oil, hemp fiber, and hemp food.

It was a pleasure meeting the incredible team of David Weir (CEO), Jane Pinto (Brand Development/PR Voice), Michael Bowman (Chief Pollinator and “Mr. Hemp”), and David Hill (Chief Quality Officer) during their visit to the EDGE Innovation Hub, Donatos Pizza, and the Grote Company.

Check out Buck Jordan, Kimberly Ng (Wavemaker Labs), and Jim Grote (founder of Donatos Pizza, the Grote Company, and the EDGE Innovation Hub) in front of a “Pepomatic” automated pepperoni applicator. Jim’s invention of the original Pepomatic in 1972 started the Grote Company and a legacy of innovation in food.

We were thrilled to be joined at the EDGE, the Grote Company, and Donatos by Wavemaker Labs, a Los Angeles VC firm, for a discussion on the future of food and partnering to further our food tech missions.

Wavemaker is doing some groundbreaking work in food industry innovation, including Miso Robotics and ChowNow, among many others.

“OAT-OVATION”

Q: What Innovation Sparks might lead a local food brand to expand its product offering?

Join us for our final EDGE Innovation Roundtable of the 2018 season. On the third Friday of the month, we connect with a diverse community of inspiring people and spark innovations that push food technology to the EDGE.

KEYNOTE

Erika Boll of The Toasted Oat.

Erika’s love of baking started when she was a little girl hanging out in her Grandmother Margaret’s kitchen. At the age of 33, Erika was diagnosed with Celiac disease and her avocation underwent a seismic shift. All those cookies…all those cakes…all those amazing baked goods she had learned to bake, and perfect, and love…all had to be completely recreated to be gluten-free or never be enjoyed again.

Since to Erika the latter option was, quite simply, unthinkable, she took to the kitchen and The Toasted Oat was born. Made from exceptional, real ingredients, every Toasted Oat item is free of additives, free of anything artificial, and completely and totally free of gluten.

Heritage recipes made modern is what The Toasted Oat is all about, and indulgence is not only encouraged, but actually good for you!
